Best Markets in Paris

By Admin 4 Min Read

Whenever we take a small group tour to Paris, one experience we always enjoy is visiting an authentic Parisian market. Here are five of our favorite markets in the City of Light:

Marché Raspail (6th Arrondissement)

Rue du Cherche-Midi / Rue de Rennes.  Métro: Rennes or Sèvres-Babylone

This charming organic market comes alive on Sundays from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. with high-quality produce and artisanal goods. On Tuesdays and Fridays (7:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.), the market expands to offer a wider variety of items—from fresh foods to flowers, wicker baskets, and more. It’s an easy stop, with friendly vendors and a warm neighborhood feel. After browsing, consider taking a short walk to La Grande Épicerie at Bon Marché—a gourmet food hall that’s a true culinary wonderland (note: closed on Sundays). Make sure to stop at an ATM beforehand—temptations abound!

Marché Président Wilson (16th Arrondissement)

Avenue du Président Wilson.  Bus #63 — get off just after crossing to the Right Bank

Open Saturday mornings

Every Saturday, I hop on the #63 bus and make my way to this expansive market, which takes me about 40 minutes to stroll from end to end. It’s one of the most diverse markets in the city—selling everything from fresh food and flowers to clothing and handmade accessories. If you’re looking for that perfect souvenir, this is the place to find it. Bonus: the market is just a short walk from the Trocadéro and Eiffel Tower, making it easy to turn your visit into a memorable morning outing.

Marché Montorgueil (2nd Arrondissement)

Rue Montorgueil.  Métro: Les Halles

Open Tuesday and Sunday until 6:00 p.m.

This pedestrian-friendly street is a feast for the senses and a slice of old-world Paris. I love to wander here, sampling, smelling, and admiring the fresh produce, cheeses, seafood, and baked goods. Once you’ve had your fill of the market atmosphere, sit down at one of the many cafés or restaurants serving up delicious meals made with local ingredients. It’s a classic Parisian experience.

Marché Mouffetard (5th Arrondissement)

Rue Mouffetard.  Métro: Place Monge or Censier-Daubenton

Open daily except Sunday afternoons and Mondays

Tucked into one of Paris’s most charming neighborhoods, Marché Mouffetard is a lively, local favorite. This market has a wonderful mix of French and international products, all nestled among bustling cafés, wine bars, and boutiques. Even when the market is closed, “rue Mouff” remains vibrant with places to eat, shop, and explore. Many people say this area is the very essence of Paris.

Marché Bastille (11th Arrondissement)

Boulevard Richard Lenoir.  Métro: Bastille or République

Open Thursdays and Sundays until around 2:00 p.m.

At the intersection of cultures and neighborhoods, Marché Bastille is one of the most dynamic markets in Paris. Alongside traditional French offerings, you’ll find Lebanese pastries, African spices, Middle Eastern flatbreads, and Asian specialties. The variety is incredible, and the atmosphere is full of energy. Whether you’re shopping for a picnic or simply soaking up the scene, this market never disappoints.

Each of these markets offers a unique glimpse into Parisian life, and they’re perfect for food lovers, souvenir hunters, and curious travelers alike.
